The Me to We Club at Harry Ainlay High School has entered a competition to win a $50,000 donation from the Aviva Community Fund to the Youth Emergency Shelter Society (YESS).

YESS provides a place where young frightened kids and teenagers with problems can go for help when they are in a crisis. Between the ages of 16 and 18 there are very few organizations or support networks in place for these people and this is where YESS steps in. Many youth who might drop out of high school or turn to drugs or crime now have a place to provide them with shelter, safety, and hope. Since 1982, YESS has given thousands of Edmonton youth options, support, and a future.

The Me to We Club would like to help YESS build onto their storage area where they are able to accept donations from various organizations. These donations can be used directly by YESS or forwarded to other needy organizations. Currently, their storage space is limited causing them to turn away donations that could be used by youth who are planning to move out of the shelter.

A second goal is to add a recreation budget for the youth, so that YESS can provide more opportunities for them to attend events, participate in the community, and explore new interests.

Another goal with this project is to help YESS redevelop a common area at the shelter to make it more comfortable for the youth as they obtain the help they need.

The first round of voting ends Wednesday, October 19. The top ten projects move to the next round of voting. Learn more and vote for YESS here.
