Edmonton, AB, Canada: Foundry Conferences & Events (Foundry) was up against numerous applicants to become a finalist for the ILEA ESPRIT® Awards. Once a finalist, Foundry competed against two well-known events professional teams in the category of Best Meeting/Conference Program Under US$500,000—Ciena SKO of Los Angeles, U.S., and Tourism Works of Calgary, AB. Foundry took top prize on Aug. 11, 2017 for its own 55 North event in 2016. Foundry’s Director of Events Erin Clyde, acknowledged her team’s ability to successfully create, organize, run, and facilitate an interactive, high–calibre, three-day event that provided long-term/post-conference business impact, and included countless activities for 200 attendees to partake in while also staying on budget.
“I am so honored for this acknowledgement from ILEA and proud to accept this award on behalf of the Foundry team and our many sponsors and supportive partners: Pomeroy Lodging, Incite Marketing, and the City of Grande Prairie, just to name a few.”—Erin Clyde, Director of Events, Foundry Conferences & Events
55 North is an annual, exclusive, invite-only conference that, after its third year in 2017, has become known as the foremost conference of Western Canada. Its design focuses on being a forward-thinking initiative for business, non-profit, and political leaders to strengthen genuine professional relationships. 55 North turns the typical conference on its head by including expert panel and keynote speakers as well as unique experiences, such as skeet shooting, a helicopter tour, and a self-defence class. 55 North is intentionally set in a remote location—Grande Prairie, AB—to inspire attendees to connect in and out of conference spaces and the scheduled program. In 1995, the ILEA Esprit® Awards began as an annual, global competition to honor exceptional, professional achievements of its members in the creative events industry. There were 36 diverse categories this year for events professionals around the world to create an anonymous comprehensive application for a juried competition review, ensuring a fair assessment of all applicants, well-known or not. This 2017 event recognized major events like the JUNOFest 2016 in Calgary, AB, and international ILEA chapters including Hong Kong, New York, and Las Vegas.
